El pedocin

It's very hard for a man to take a picture like this. The only time you can is when there are no women around ...

I really did not know what "El pedocin" is. I checked it just out of curiosity about your photo and now understand your caption! Nice idea...

I didn't check out the meaning of your title but suspect it might say don't pee in the water.

I was very intrigued by your comment and had to do some googling to see if I could understand it... as far as my italian goes I think I know now what you mean, but I have to say I find this 'men vs. women' situation very weird... :-)))

JM, probably you missed the etymology of "pedocin" that is more funny than the segregation. I had to read through something written in "triestino" which, as italian, I did not understand easily!

Mi chiedo solo chi vorebbe tuffarsi in acqua così bassa? :-)

It's a sort of city "(sun)bathing resort" in Trieste, divided into 2 areas, one for men, one for women/children under 12. "Non tuffarsi" means "do not dive". "Pedocìn" literally means "little louse". More info in: http://www.vitanuovatrieste.it/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=3296

Nice photo indeed

These are public baths existing since the late 1800s. It is conceived as a place where women and men are separated. Though nowaday such a separation sounds peculiar, it remains a characteristic of this beach.
This is not only a unique place in Italy, but all over Europe. The beachers themselves are very fond of this separation: if a male were about to cross the line of the “females’ zone” (or viceversa), he would most likely be coverd with bad words and imediately thrown out in shame.
This strong affection is probably due to the freedom beachers feel in not being observed by the “other sex”. You could even see a women getting a sun tan with her hair curlers!
The only “contact” with the “other sex” might take place at sea where the separating wall ends.
This is the most popular beach in the city maybe also because of the ticket price: 0,8 € daily!
Children up to 12 years old do not pay and can enter both parts indistinctly.
If you feel like trying this unique experience, get your “separate ticket” and enjoy the sun!
