What an intriguing capture. I really want to know the story behind this. The photo is full of inconsistencies...the semi parked beside the ladder into the pit, the lawn chairs, the attire of the two men, the table-like setting behind them. Great work.
The story behind the photo is that these are two Turkish truck drivers. Their trucks are parked at the edge of a quay in the Trieste New Free Port awaiting to embark on the ferry from Trieste to Turkey. The ladder therefore isn't going into a pit but down to sea level.
A photograph is a secret about a secret. The more it tells you the less you know. -Diane Arbus-
Photographers deal in things which are continually vanishing and when they have vanished there is no contrivance on earth which can make them come back again. -Henri Cartier Bresson-
I photograph to find out what something will look like photographed. - Garry Winogrand-

Nice monochrome! What were they wait for exactly? The seem to be quite relaxed!
I think they're wondering: "Man that was a mighty job pulling the truck up the ladder, now lets just relaxxxxxx. Phew!!!" :-)
