A night in April

Glauco Cambon (1875-1930)
Trieste by night (A Night in April)
Oil on canvas
Udine, Galleria d'arte moderna

The couple in the foreground admire the night view of the lit up city. The curving tree branches serve as a frieze.

I would assume that the people who saw this painting when it was fIrst painted would have included people who would not have been able to see this same sight with a city so lit up at dusk because there had not yet been electric lights throughout the city.
